Tū Roa Te Hiku exists to support tamariki, rangatahi, whānau and kaupapa Māori to stand strong, move with purpose, and create lasting ripples across Te Hiku and beyond.

About Tū Roa Te Hiku
Tū Roa Te Hiku is a kaupapa Māori charitable trust grounded in whānau, culture, resilience and mana motuhake.
We believe our people already carry the strength, knowledge and leadership needed to shape their own future. Sometimes what is needed is support — a pathway, a resource, a connection, a grant, a kaupapa, or someone willing to stand alongside.
Our role is to back opportunities that help tamariki and rangatahi grow, strengthen whānau resilience, protect mātauranga Māori, and support local kaupapa that create lasting benefit for our communities.
We are guided by tikanga, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, manaakitanga, whanaungatanga, kaitiakitanga, kotahitanga and the belief that even small kaupapa can create a powerful wake.

What We Support
Rangatahi and tamariki opportunities
We support opportunities that help young people grow their confidence, identity, leadership and sense of belonging. This may include education, cultural learning, arts, performance, mentoring, wānanga, training and development pathways.
Whānau wellbeing and resilience
We support kaupapa that strengthen whānau, build connection, and help our people access the tools, knowledge and support they need to move forward.
Culture, reo and identity
We back kaupapa that protect, celebrate and pass on mātauranga Māori, te reo Māori, tikanga, whakapapa, pūrākau, creative expression and intergenerational knowledge.
Community-led kaupapa
We support local initiatives that create practical pathways for learning, employment, leadership, skills, wellbeing and sustainable community development.
Taiao and kaitiakitanga
We support kaupapa that care for te taiao and uphold our responsibilities as kaitiaki of whenua, wai, taonga and future generations.
Grants, koha and practical support
Where it aligns with our charitable purposes, the Trust may provide grants, koha, scholarships, resources or other support to individuals, whānau, groups and kaupapa that create genuine community benefit.

A problem is solved by continuing to find solutions.
We know that whānau and communities often face barriers that cannot be solved by one answer alone. Our approach is to keep looking for the pathway forward — through kōrero, wānanga, relationships, creativity and practical action.
We listen first. We work with care. We make decisions that protect the kaupapa and uplift the mana of the people we serve.

Governance
Tū Roa Te Hiku is governed by Trustees who are responsible for protecting the kaupapa, making careful decisions, and ensuring all resources are used to advance the charitable purposes of the Trust.
Our Trustees are guided by tikanga-based kōrero, wānanga, transparency and accountability. Decisions are made with care, and any grants, koha or support must align with the Trust's kaupapa and create charitable benefit.
All income, donations, grants and resources received by the Trust are used to support its charitable purposes. No funds or property may be used for private gain.
